Just watched a very interesting doco on the over prescription of ADHD medication and the story behind it, which was most interesting and what I'll focus on.
In court in the United States, the academic who is said to be the world leader in research of ADHD medication is asked to state his title "full professor" he replies, of possibly the most well known university in the world. He is then asked what comes next after full professor, to which he replies "god". Interesting...
Next we learn, under oath, he received millions of dollars from pharmaceutical companies to produce research and results to support the use of these medications. Interesting...
Basically, he was creating marketing material (research) with in scientific circles to enhance product sales for a company that paid him millions to do so. Additionally, because the perception of character of this man is so great, tens of thousands of doctors around the world, based solely on the 'research' of this man, have their patients buy the products (medications) he is marketing to make himself and the manafactures (drug companies) profits at the expense of many peoples health and wellbeing. Interesting...
Instead of focusing on the problems, lets look at a few solutions by taking full responsibility for yourself and your health.
1. ALL drugs have unwanted side effects. Period. Some show up sooner, others show up later. But they ALWAYS show up
2. This doesn't mean they have no value. There is a time and place for everything. It's our challenge to ensure we use them only when there is no other option rather than because it's convenient or easier not to change
For example, the doctor says your blood pressure is too high; take this drug to lower/control it. That's treating the symptom. Treat the cause, not the symptom. Why is your blood pressure high? By addressing the causes, the symptoms disappear
Interestingly, by you being responsible for your health and treating the causes, drugs/medications are rarely the solution, as they didn't create the problem in the first instance, so how can they fix the problem? What's that saying? "let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food"...
3. Understand that your perception of being responsible for your health and the reality of it (as literally interperated by your physical body at this point in time, because the body doesn't lie, but people do) might be worlds apart. It's safe to say for 95% of the population, be prepared to change, alot, to win the battle.
This online health assessment is my starting point for winning the battle of optimal health http://bit.ly/healthasses. This is typically too much change for the average person, but just getting started for those committed to excellence in health and wellness.
4. 'An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure'. We can be proactive or reactive in our daily habits and spending.
The difference?
The investment in proactively is a few dollars a day, while reactivity costs thousands of dollars and years in terms of quality of life.
We all make our choices everyday consiously or unconsiously, the choice is made; what to eat, how much to eat, when to eat, to train today or watch tv instead, what type of training to do, in what order, what supplements to take, when to take them, etc. I trust you're taking full responsibility for your choices to date and everyday into the future!
